I’ll keep it short and sweet today. It was Thursday and I had been stuck inside all day. Staying inside has become a pathetically difficult thing for me to achieve these days. I had thrown in the towel on being able to get a hike in before the sun went down, but my mother turned it around. Out we went together to get the short but intense walk up Rattlesnake Mountain in Rumney.
Rattlenake is only about 20 minutes from Plymouth heading west on Rt. 25. Head into the Rumney town center and then take the left onto Buffalo road before the town square. Bypass the famed Rumney Rocks climbing area by about 1.5 miles. The trailhead is tucked away across from a cleared side of the road and right before a bridge.
The whole trail including the loop at the top is only about 2.5 miles but it is very steep. It’s great to do if you don’t have much time, but you’re looking for a great view and exercise.
We made it to the top just in time for sunset.
I should have thanked my mom for kicking me in the butt to get outside at the time, but I didn’t. I will now: Thanks for making sure I got outside even when I didn’t think I could, Mom, because it seriously helped me preserve my sanity this week.
